2014 EFL Pre-Season Wiki | Tomorrow: Mulgrave

BAYSWATER Junior Football Club president Sharyn Maggs spoke to Sam Gastin as her club prepares for the 2014 season.

Sam Gastin: Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2013?

Sharyn Maggs: We were reasonably satisfied with what we achieved last year. We had our Under 11s and Under 13s making the finals, with the under 11s making the Grand Final in their first year of competitive football, so that was great.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2014?

We’ve actually got a couple of extra teams this year. We’ll field seven teams from Under 9’s to Under 14’s. We’ve got a girls team as well for the second year and the numbers of girls playing is getting much higher, so that’s really positive.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

It’s been really positive and I think everyone is really excited for the season to start. A few of our teams had practice matches last weekend. We’re having our jumper presentation at the senior game on Friday night. We’ll give all our juniors free passes to get in. So we’re encouraging all our junior players to wear their green and gold jumpers and come down to that.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

I think our Under 12’s are a very strong team and are going along nicely. Our Under 14’s are a good, strong consistent team who are always thereabouts as well. And our Under 13’s were our biggest improvers last year and they just missed out on the final. They’ve picked up a few extra numbers and they’ll be in the mix as well.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

We still need a few in our Under 9’s and Under 11’s.

If any players are interested in playing for Bayswater Junior Football Club this season, what do they have to do?

They can contact me [Sharyn Maggs] on 0412 208 167 or our registrar Vicky Dawber on 0401 306 209.
