The work of both the clubs and the league saw record participation numbers across all competitions, over 13,000 registered participants took part in EFL competitions over the course of the season The introduction of the league’s first Girls football competition and the increase from 12 to 36 teams in the Netball EFL competition saw more than 800 females involved across the league. Our Junior representative program continues to develop stars of the future, claiming another two Premierships in the AFL Victoria Junior Metropolitan Championships. The wins in 2015 ensures the league continues its run of form winning eight of a possible 12 grand finals over the last three seasons.
Bouncing back after the 2014 loss, our Senior Interleague team, led by Denis Knight and John Holmes, were able to defeat the Western Region FL by 34 points at Ikon Park.
Within the competition the Junior finals series finals saw 21 different clubs share in the 25 Junior Premierships on offer. Following their senior side into the EFL, South Belgrave fielded seven teams and claimed a Premiership in their first season (Under 15B).
Development at both the top and the bottom of our umpiring group was crucial with 74 new junior field umpires coming on board in season 2015. At the top end seven umpires nominated to trial with the VFL. Statistics around player behaviour show record lows with the number of players reported and players found guilty of a reportable offence down 35%, a record in season 2015, Further to this the number of melees was down a staggering 33% from 2014.
The league is also pleased to record an operating surplus of upwards of $85,000. Club debtors reduced by 15% and the number of fines for clubs was reduced by 40%. Click the link below to view the 2015 Annual Report
