Somewhat of a poignant moment at Central Reserve late in the season. Two sides who have had their fair share of ups and downs in the past decade face-off with the loser out of finals contention.

Surrey Park (67 losses) and Glen Waverley Hawks (49 losses) hold the longest and second longest losing streaks in the history of the competition. For Surrey Park, a successful start to the year under new Coach Scott Hamill had bred new life into the club and pushed them deeper into the final hunt than was initially expected.

The Panthers last tasted September action in 2006 and are yet to win an EFL Senior Final as Surrey Park (merger between Surrey Hills and East Camberwell). However, Season 2016 welcomed their first positive season (more wins than losses) and the chance to continue to grow under Hamill.

For the Glen Waverley Hawks, the lows of there 49 game losing streak were broken in 2011-12 when the club played in back to back Grand Finals, from there it has been a harder road than many expected.

The chance for the Hawks to play finals in season 2016 was grasped with both hands as the Hawks recorded a five-point win in a hard-fought game that was close from first siren to last.
