In Division 1 action, Knox withstood a last-quarter flurry from Kilsyth to take home a Round 1 victory. Trailing 22-28 at three quarter time the Cougars piled on 11 goals in final term, but it wasn’t enough, as they fell agonisingly short 33-35. Knox’s three-pronged attack proved the difference, with Gardner (13), Fort (12) and Teunissen (10) all prolific goal-scorers.

Coldstream made light work of North Ringwood Black to record a 30-goal victory, while Scoresby faced sterner opposition in Park Orchards. The Swoopers established a sizeable lead early courtesy of a 13-goal first term, which proved too much for Park Orchards to claw back as Scoresby recorded a 7-goal victory. Williams’ shooting proved the difference between the two sides as she accounted for 30 of the Swoopers’ goals.

Elsewhere, Ferntree Gully defeated Croydon Blues 42-21 thanks to 29 goals from Gully’s C. Morgan.

In what proved to be the Division 2 game of the round, Lilydale Gold went neck-and-neck with Forest Hill White to record an exhilarating one-goal victory. With scores level at the quarter-time and half-time breaks, Forest Hill clawed a one-goal advantage at the final break after a seven-goal third term. But it was Lilydale who in the end pulled out a gutsy come-from-behind win as they scored seven of their own in the last to run out 22-21 victors, thanks to 13-goals from McNay.

Mulgrave Red overcame a slow start to secure a four-goal victory over North Ringwood Red. After managing just four goals in the first term, Mulgrave poured in nine in the second, while holding North Ringwood to just two goals to record and eventual 27-23 victory.

34 combined goals from The Basin Red’s Beardsworth (18) and Simpson (16) saw their side take home a comfortable 18-goal victory over Knox, while Park Orchards Red also won comfortably, taking care of the Scoresby Strikers 36-13.

In a challenging weekend for Scoresby clubs, the Shooters also went down 24-33 to the Kilsyth Cougars Red, while elsewhere Whitehorse Maroon accounted for Norwood Purple 32-21 thanks to 17 Bonnett goals.

Two low-scoring affairs saw Whitehorse White defeat the Chirnside Panthers 23-16 courtesy of 16 goals from R. Brooks, while Ferntree gully recorded a 21-16 victory over East Burwood Grey, with Pearson (10 goals) and De Ieso (9 goals) doing the damage for East Burwood.

22 goals from South Croydon White’s E. Brown saw her side overcome Knox Red 37-21, while 21 goals from Vermont’s K. Phillips wasn’t enough for the Eagles, as they fell short of Heathmont White. 22 goals from Heathmont’s O’Connor ensured the 38-22 victory.

Meanwhile, North Ringwood White recorded a 23-goal win over Rowville and Ringwood Red got their season off to a great start with a 41-29 victory over Glen Waverley Blue thanks to 22 goals from S. Livesey.

2019 Bendigo Bank Netball EFL Division 4

Croydon North-MLOC’s P. Saunders poured in 28 of her side’s 32 goals as they defeated The Basin Green 32-19, while Heathmont Blue made light work of Forest Hill, running out 20-goal winners.

Caldow accounted for a whopping 36 goals as her Montrose Flames pumped Kilsyth Cougars Black 47-23. The Flames had the game all but won at quarter time, courtesy of a 12-goals to one first term.

In other results, Coldstream White, Upper Ferntree Gully Red and Mitcham Yellow will all head into Round 2 with confidence after picking up victories in Round 1.

2019 Bendigo Bank Netball EFL Division 5

Norwood took home a 27-goal Round 1 victory with a 40-13 rout of South Croydon, as the Woodettes’ Gray (24 goals) and Teijeiro (16 goals) operated as a dominant tag-team.

Mitcham Black’s A. Rennick scored 16-goals on Glen Waverley White as her side recorded a 22-point victory, while Nunawading defeated Wantirna South Green 38-21 thanks to goals from Osborn (12) and Kolevich (11).

16 goals from South Belgrave’s C. Cook helped her side to a four-goal win over Coldstream Blue, while Ringwood Black and Park Orchards Black both recorded comfortable victories.

2019 Bendigo Bank Netball EFL Division 6

In a low-scoring contest, a six-goal final term was enough for South Belgrave Red to edge Ringwood White 19-15, with Rollings the major goal-scorer for the Red with 14.

Dahlstrohm’s 21 and Sutherland’s 18 goals for Knox White saw their side run out 39-22 victors over the Montrose Devils.

19 of Ferntree Gully Blue’s 22 goals came courtesy of B. Mollison, helping the Blue to escape with a come-from-behind 22-20 win over Wantirna South White.

Coldstream Black and Glen Waverley Hawks Yellow both recorded comfortable victories, with Jefferis (23 goals) and Mazzarella (15 goals) prolific for the Hawks.

2019 Bendigo Bank Netball EFL Division 7

Norwood White’s dynamic duo of Conway (21 goals) and Keppler (15 goals) made light work of Ferntree Gully White as they recorded a 26-goal win.

The Basin Bears led Coldstream Red at every break to run out 36-19 victors. Coldstream’s L. Caldwell was the leading goal-scorer on the day with 13 but didn’t receive enough support from teammates.

In the final game of Round 1 we saw the first draw of the 2019 Bendigo Bank Netball EFL season, as Lilydale Yellow clawed back Glen Waverley Black to earn a share of the points. A 13-goal second half for the Yellow saw them erase a three-goal halftime deficit, as scores finished 18 goals apiece.  Glen Waverley’s Armstrong (10) and Lilydale’s Burke (11) traded goals all night, but in the end neither could find a winner for their side.
