In Division 1, Balwyn chalked up its first win under coach Rodney Eade on Saturday afternoon, defeating reigning premier South Croydon by 20 points. Taylor Gilchrist, Jeff Gobbels and Luke Barker each booted four as the Tigers led at all changes.
Meanwhile, Norwood banked the four points in a thriller against East Ringwood, getting over the line by two points at Mullum Reserve, as the Norsemen survived a final term surge by the Roos after clinging to a five-point lead at the final change.
In Division 2, Wantirna South posted its first win for season 2018, defeating Mooroolbark by six points at Walker Reserve. Papa was the hero up forward for the Devils booting five, while former Waverley Blues duo Will Edwards and Ben Carboni combined well in the midfield to be named in the best players.
Croydon recorded a resounding 43-point victory over Mitcham at Croydon Oval, led by Riley Britton booting four majors for the Blues.
Division 3 saw a final quarter arm-wrestle between Boronia and the Waverley Blues, with the Hawks prevailing by 12 points. Boronia led by 30 points at three quarter time, before the Blues kicked three goals to none in the final term to fall short. Robinson had four majors for Boronia, while Walker, McKinley and Turner each finished with two for the Waverley Blues.
Meanwhile, Ringwood survived a scare from The Basin, with a four-point win at Batterham Reserve – led by Trent Farmer with four goals.
In Division 4, East Burwood defeated the Glen Waverley Hawks by 26 points at Central Reserve, as it posted two senior wins in a row since rounds 17 and 18 2012. The Rams were led by Adrian Gileno up forward who finished with five goals, along with Max Wills who slotted four in the second-half.
And in one of the upsets of the round, Fairpark comfortably accounted for Surrey Park by 51 points, with Dadswell and Gough combining for eight goals in the Lions’ attack.
