North Ringwood produced one of the upsets of the season, defeating the much-fancied Blackburn by 17 points at Morton Park. Rory Harbeck, Charlie Haley and Thomas Hill all led the charge for the Saints, each kicking two majors.
Meanwhile, a valiant effort by a youthful Doncaster outfit wasn’t enough as Vermont recorded its ninth-straight win – and kept its unbeaten record intact – as the Eagles ran out seven-point winners.
In Division 2, Mooroolbark came away with the four points against Mitcham at Walker Park, defeating the Tigers by 14 points. In a shoot-out, Kire Talevski booted five for the Mustangs, as did Zak McCubbin for the home side.
At the Lilydale Sports Oval, Lilydale re-affirmed its finals credentials with a 58-point win over an in-form Croydon.
In Division 3, Batterham Reserve was abuzz with AFL-great Barry Hall donning the red and green stripes for The Basin today, but it was Heathmont coming away with a comfortable 46-point win. Hall booted four for the Bears.
The Whitehorse Pioneers continued its winning form, soundly beating Forest Hill at home to the tune of 42 points. The win comes as the Pioneers led at all changes, including a four-goal-to-none opening term, followed by a 32-point half-time lead to set up the victory.
At Central Reserve, the Glen Waverley Hawks and Surrey Park played out a thriller, with the Hawks prevailing by just two points after an almighty scare from the Panthers in the final term, as they piled on four goals to one.
