BEYOND BLUE ROUND 2019

The Eastern Football League will mark Beyond Blue Round this weekend, across May 18-19.

We’re committed to making mental health part of everyday conversations because talking about mental health – in our clubs, in the stands and off the field – is the game-changer.

Having a conversation about mental health, with our peers and within our clubs, will help reduce the stigma associated with anxiety, depression and suicide. To help make mental health part of everyday conversations, we are encouraging all club players to wear the special Beyond Blue strapping tape around their right wrists during their games this weekend. Wearing blue tape is a symbolic action, telling everyone that speaking up and seeking support is OK. If we can talk about our physical injuries then we should be able to talk about mental health conditions without being discriminated or stigmatised.

WHERE TO GET SUPPORT: If you or someone you know needs to talk things through, then the Beyond Blue Support Service is there for you. Mental health professionals provide an expert listening ear, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can call 1300 224 636 (24 hours a day, seven days a week) or visit beyondblue.org.au/getsupport for web-chat or email support (3pm to 12am AEST).

If you’re going through a tough time and are experiencing depression, anxiety or suicidal thoughts, talking about your feelings can be hard. But keeping silent could make it seem even worse.

You don’t have to go through this alone, support from friends within your club, family or a health professional can help with your recovery. If you’re worried about someone at your club and avoiding starting a conversation with them about your concerns, simply letting them know you care can make a big difference. With the advice of people who are familiar with anxiety and depression, Beyond Blue has developed information that can help people have a conversation that might be difficult. Visit www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/have-the-conversation for more information on how to have the conversation.
