A statement from EFL CEO Rob Sharpe…

TODAY, the Herald Sun ran an article relating to the suspension of an EFL player, who used his twitter account to vilify umpires in a match that he was recently involved in.

The circumstances that lead to the decision of the board is not a matter that we intend to discuss publicly.

It is fair to say, however, that in determining a suspension, all the circumstances surrounding the matter were thoroughly investigated and are indisputable.

We commend the efforts of EFL clubs players and officials as they continue to improve the way that they represent themselves.

However, there may well be occasions when the required standards of behaviour are breached. Should this occur, it will remain the responsibility of the league to act accordingly.

Rob Sharpe Chief Executive Officer
