#INFOCUS2018 | SCORESBY JFC

Scoresby Junior Football Club president Kate Potter spoke to EFL Media ahead of the season, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water and Choose Tap.

Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2017?

Season 2017 was a very successful year with regard to off-field initiatives, with the club signing formal affiliation agreements with Scoresby Football Club and Scoresby Magpies Auskick. A number of new sponsors came on board to support the club, which together with increased fundraising strategies, led to a significant improvement in the club’s financial position.

Despite only fielding three teams in 2017, it was exciting to see our under-17 squad make it through to finals, which for most of the kids was the first time they had experienced this.

Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2018?

Five teams, including two which are merged sides with Rowville Knights.

What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?

Incredibly positive and up-beat, with parents looking to get involved in club activities and the committee and football department working hard to make sure everything runs smoothly. We have recruited a number of past Scoresby juniors players who are keen to come back to the club and this has also increased the feelings of renewed energy and excitement.

If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?

Under-15s squad. Many of these boys have already played a season of under-15s in 2017 in a combined under-14 and under-15 squad. They are aware of what is expected and will not be intimidated by the pace of the game or the required commitment to go after the ball.

Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1?

Under-9s and under-11s.

If any players are interested in playing for your club this season, what do they have to do?
