Morton Turns Pink

Morton Park is turning pink.

As part of this weekend’s BCNA Round, the Blackburn Football Club has organised a women’s footy extravaganza on Saturday afternoon.

Blackburn, Chirnside Park and Mooroolbark’s masters teams will kick off the day in a round robin competition.

Organised for the first time last year by the Mooroolbark Football Club, the event raised over $5,000 for the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

The day is a highlight of the master’s calendar, with the aim to raise even more money this year for BCNA.

Between games the players will indulge in a high tea and a bit of fun all in the name of a good cause.

Blackburn and Park Orchards senior women’s teams will then round out the day in a twilight match.

Breast cancer effects so many people: not just those who are diagnosed but also their family and friends.

Around 20,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia each year: that’s 50-60 women and men each day.

The risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer over a lifetime is 1 in 7 for women and 1 in 726 for men. It is the most common cancer diagnosed in Australian women.

So, if you are down at Morton Park this weekend, be it the Friday night blockbuster featuring Blackburn and Park Orchard’s senior men, during Saturday’s footy festival or at the junior games on Sunday, please contribute to this great cause.
