A group of leading coaches and executive staff from across the United States were given a firsthand look  at Australian community football during a recent visit to Melbourne, highlighted by a day at an Eastern Football Netball League (EFNL).

Facilitated through the collaborative efforts of RDK Sports, the EFNL and Vermont Football Club, the visit provided the delegates with a unique opportunity to experience the passion, professionalism and community aspect of the EFNL.

The delegation, comprising coaches, athletic directors and sports executives from a range of American sporting organisations such as the New York Giants, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors, spent the day enjoying the matchday environment at Vermont Football Club, meeting players, coaches, volunteers and league officials while gaining valuable insights into the Australian community sporting landscape.

EFNL Chief Executive Officer Jy Bond welcomed the visitors and highlighted the importance of international sporting exchanges.

"Community sport plays a vital role in bringing people together, developing young people and creating lifelong connections," Bond said.

"It was fantastic to welcome such an accomplished group of coaches and administrators from the United States and showcase what makes Australian Rules football and the EFNL so special. The day highlighted both mens and women’s EFNL teams and how community sport can connect people across cultures and continents."

The visitors were particularly impressed by the strong volunteer culture and the level of community engagement throughout the day.

One of the visiting coaches said the experience exceeded expectations.

"I've been involved in sport for more than 20 years and I've never seen anything quite like this. The passion from the players, the support from the community and the way the club brings everyone together is incredibly impressive," the coach said.

"You can see how much the clubs means to the people here. It's not just a football game – it's the heart of the community. We've learned a great deal that we can take back to our own programs in the United States."

The visit formed part of a broader sporting and cultural exchange program designed to strengthen relationships between Australian and American sporting organisations while sharing best practice in coaching, administration and community engagement.

The EFNL extends its thanks to RDK Sports and Vermont Football Club for helping deliver a memorable experience for the delegation and looks forward to future opportunities to showcase community football on the international stage.
