VALE LAWRIE SLOAN

Warrandyte Football Club is saddened to advise one of the Club’s greatest stalwart and absolute legend has passed away.

Lawrie Sloan passed away on Saturday 31 January 2015 after a recent bout of ill health.

Lawrie had a long and distinguished career with WFC. He was President for a record 11 years. Instrumental in forming our Junior club and in fact was chairman of it for 6 years.

He first joined the WFC committee in 1967 and was a regular at all our homes as can be seen by the attached photo with his good mate – Ian Hook.

He served 9 years on EDFL Executive sacrificing automatic life membership to EDFL to go back to the Bloods as President when rather leave the club administration in limbo.

In 2002 the EFL paid tribute to Lawrie’s enormous contributions with its ‘Recognition of Service Award’. The following year he was named ‘TXU Victorian Football Community Club Member of the Year’. He was very proud of both awards and held them in high regard.

Sadly this is the end of a 100+ years Sloan family association with the Bloods. Lawrie may no longer be with us in person however he will always be remembered.

Lawrie was very well known, liked and admired in EDFL/EFL circles and will be sadly missed by all.
