Once the celebrations wind down Bayswater will prepare for its first assault on Division 1 since the early 2000’s after an emphatic 107-point win over Wantirna South in Saturday’s Division 2 Bendigo Bank Grand Final.
Winning by a margin unexpected by many Bayswater controlled the game from the first whistle to the final siren. Kicking with the breeze in the first term they quickly skipped out to a commanding lead, six goals to one-behind before the first change.
Bayswater controlled the stoppages early and got on top of the mid-field through the sheer physicality their were able to produce. The second term saw Wayne McInerney kick his second major alongside Anthony Van Rooyen as the Waters continued to dominate even against what was a significant breeze.
Eight multiple goal kickers and a 10-goal lead into the main change and the Waters found themselves in the drivers seat. For everything that Bayswater had done in the first half, they were rewarded in the third term as the game opened up and the Waters begun to take control on the scoreboard.
Within minutes of each other both Ben Searle and Jack Callanan slotted goals from 50 out to bring the house down and begin the celebrations early. A procession followed in the final term with another five goals kicked to take the margin past 100 points and cement the Bayswater Football Club as the premier side in Division 2 for 2016.
In an emotional day for the Galvin family – Bayswater Captain Joel was named Gordon Parker/ Blue Ribbon Medalist as best on ground. EFL Legend Gary was also awarded a Premiership Medalion but selflessly passed it onto one of the teams hardworking water boys.
