Rowville Knights president Wayne Sargeant spoke to EFL Media ahead of season 2018, all thanks to Yarra Valley Water and Choose Tap.
Overall, were you satisfied with what the club achieved, both on and off the field, in 2017?
Wayne Sargeant: Rowville Knights had their most successful year in 2017 winning two premierships, including under-17A and under-13C with our under-11 and under-16 girls team finishing runners-up. Of our seven competitive teams, six made finals which was a huge effort.
Off-field we have built a foundation that should augur well for the future and we are hopeful that with government funding we will be able to erect a new girls changing facilities and social area.
Approximately how many teams do you think you will field in 2018?
WS: Rowville Knights should field 13 teams including four girls teams which has been terrific for the morale and culture around the club.
What has the feeling been like around the club over the pre-season?
WS: The buzz has been electric and the kids are champing at the bit to play their first practice game on Sunday, March 18th.
If you had to pick one, which team do you think is the club’s best chance of winning a premiership this season?
WS: Very challenging to pick a winning team without seeing what division each team is in. I think our under-12 and under-14 girls should be in a strong position to perform well.
Is there a particular age group of players that you need as soon as possible to fill a team ahead of Round 1? WS: We are always looking for extra players particularly with the girls teams. So any girl looking for a team and who has or is turning 18 please jump on our website. We are also looking for under-8s and under-9 boys.
